We're two Florida-born pirates living and creating in Palm Harbor, Florida ... with two fluffy Halloween-colored cats that help keep us on our toes.
Our mission: To create attractive, inspiring, fun and funky wearable art and practical objects — while having a good piratical time (arr!) and pursuing and promoting sustainability. We use recycled, repurposed, and cruelty-free packaging and materials whenever possible, and we have even bigger, greener plans in the works, too!
Crystal's responsible for all things fiber arts, for the online face of Star & Crossbones, and for all the (some say) boring admin stuff that goes into running a business. Oh, and she founded Star & Crossbones, too. She loves blue, old-school tools, high-tech gadgets, organizing information, tea, books, and running around outside.
She creates because it would be out of character not to, and she creates to overcome the uncreative gunk that builds up when bleh things happen. Her ultimate aim in creating is to produce work that leaves a light footprint on the Earth and on social systems, enhances conscious living and inspires genuine delight — although she hasn't reached that point yet. Yes, she is a hippie. Or at least, she studied anthropology in college, and wants to draw more on cultural themes as she grows as an artist/crafter. Once upon a time (and occasionally still, when summoned), she played characters at local Renaissance Festivals and pirate shows, through which she discovered the piratical aspect of her independent nature. That, along with her tendency toward geekery, inspired the name of her crafty business.
Brian likes turtles, and makes chain mail. Other stuff, too. At some point.
